Oak Labs

Role & Responsibilities

Director of UX & Design

Oak Labs partners with retailers to beautifully embed technology into brick-and-mortar stores and bring the best of online into the physical world. Our work is driven by a simple philosophy: experience and human interactions come first; tech comes second.

• Managed both people and projects directly

• Created the end to end experience for the Oak Mirror along with it's core functionality and features (ideation & strategy, wireframes, prototypes, user testing, UX specifications, visual design, collaborated with Business unit and Development teams to ensure design integrity)

• Key member in the team that helped create the overall Oak smart fitting room experience. A fitting room unlike any other with built in sensors knowing all items the customer has brought within. Upon entering, the Oak Mirror illuminates with a fully customizable touch interface. Meanwhile, the stores operating system allows a store associate to manage that customer's entire experience. From installing the Oak Mirrors, retailers have had on average 84% customer engagement, an average basket lift increase of 59%, customers experience 40% less time in the fitting room due to it's high efficiency, and brands are able to gather  new meaningful data they were never able to collect before

• Created the end to end experience for the Oak Stockroom. This new tool enabled brick and mortar retail associates to communicate and fulfill  customers needs / requests within fitting rooms virtually. The Oak Stockroom took the average fulfillment time of  6:15 minutes to 1:39 minutes

Sales Associate iPad App + Mobile App + Apple Watch Tool

The objective with this mobile tool was to create a baseline foundation that could easily be themed/skinned for any fashion retailers specific style guidelines. This tool served three main purposes:

Room View: Give sales associates the ability to virtually see what items are within specific fitting rooms along with receiving customer requests making fulfillment times drastically improve.

Inventory: Enabling sales associates the ability to check inventory items via scanning barcodes from their mobile device. This proved to be far more efficient opposed to the traditional methods of calling back of house via radio.

Recommend - While customers are trying on clothing within the fitting rooms they can receive additional garment suggestions that would appear on the mirror. These items are sent from the sales associate who can suggest additional items that may match what is currently being tried on.

Interactive Smart Fitting Room Mirror

At Oak, we only introduce technology that solves a specific problem. We identify points of friction in a customer journey, and create technologies & strategies to solve them.

Fitting rooms are a real problem. They are the place of the highest conversion in-store (⅔ of fitting room sessions convert to purchase) from your best customers (who spend 80% more than shoppers who don’t make it into the fitting room), yet, it is the place of highest dissatisfaction in the retail store. The Oak Mirror targets some of the greatest pain points of shoppers, enabling them to change lighting seamlessly, requests specific items or general help from a sales associate without leaving the room and (our latest feature!) pay directly by tapping their phone to the mirror.
